The Cure for Juvinile Diabetes Invitational
Christopher Wallace, Age 16

Sixteen-year-old Chris Wallace was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in December of 2002. After a brief stay in the hospital, Chris emerged with the knowledge that his life had changed forever. He would now need to test his blood sugar five times a day and receive syringe injections of insulin an equal number of times. He is now used to managing diets but admits that he misses sweets sometimes - particularly ice cream. His parent's lives have changed also. Chris has the good fortune to have a Mom who is a registered nurse, but Chris has taken over the primary responsibility for his treatnment. He thanks everyone for their hard work and contributions to the event.

Chris is a rising 10th grader at Langley High School, Virginia where his studies need to be managed around the diabetic needs of insulin shots and testing. He doesn't think much about his disease. Chris thinks about his friends and athletics and accepts the limits the disease imposes without letting it affect his enjoyment of life. He is an active and accomplished swimmer and has the goal of one day being as good as Gary Hall, a Northern Virginia native who won four metals in the Olympics. Chris also enjoys golf and is looking forward to being at the golf tournament. He wishes to extend his thanks to all of those who are supporting the Cure for Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
